Rome, September 26, 2023– The cast of “Modi,” the new biopic on Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani directed by Johnny Depp, who returns behind the camera after 25 years, is expanding. Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays Modigliani, and Al Pacino, as Maurice Gangnat, are joined by Luisa Ranieri, as Rosalie.
Shot these weeks in Budapest, “Modi” is a biographical film set during the artist’s Paris sojourn in 1916. On the big screen, however, Depp brings only 48 hours: a snapshot of life. Modigliani, eager to end his career and leave town, is on the run from the police on the streets of the French capital, and he clashes with his bohemian colleagues: the French artist Maurice Utrillo (Niney), the Belarusian Chaim Soutine, and his English muse and lover Beatrice Hastings. It is, however, when he meets the international art collector Gangnat (Pacino) that his life seems to be about to change.
“I am thrilled to announce that in our new film on Modigliani,” comments Andrea Iervolino, CEO of the ILBE Group, “Luisa Ranieri, one of the most talented actresses Italy can boast and who could certainly succeed internationally, has been added to the cast. With ILBE we continue to promote great Italian actors, and our goal is to enhance their talent worldwide by pairing them with internationally renowned stars. I am very proud to be part of this project.”
The film, based on a play by Dennis McIntyre and later adapted for the screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski will attend the Cannes Marché sold by The Veterans
