Waiting for the Barbarians, produced by Iervolino Entertainment, a company listed on the AIM Italia stock exchange and engaged in the production and co-production of cinematographic and television content for the international market, is the most watched film on Apple TV UK. The news broke today on the website of Variety, one of the most important periodicals in the trade. Directed by Ciro Guerra and written by Nobel Prize-winning author J.M. Coetzee, who adapted the screenplay from his own novel, the film was presented last year at the Venice Film Festival, where it was acclaimed with a very long applause at the end of the screening and defined by critics as a “mesmerising watch”.
The film stars Oscar winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Oscar nominee Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Robert Pattinson (Twilight and The Batman), Gana Bayarsaikhan (Ex Machina) and Greta Scacchi (The Girl in the Fog).
After the successful debut in the United States and the United Kingdom, a number of international distribution agreements were stipulated. Among the transactions concluded by AMBI Distribution, the sales agency that acquired its worldwide sales rights, with the launch of the “virtual” TIFF market are Germany (Constantin Film), France (SND), Italy (Iervolino Entertainment SpA), CIS (Paradise), Middle East (Falcon Films), EEC (Vertical), Taiwan (Cai Chang International), Australia (Defiant), Latin America (Dreamgold), Turkey (Filmarti), Mongolia (Black Stallion), Indonesia (Artist View), Scandinavia and Iceland (Non Stop), Benelux (One2See), Singapore (Shaw Bros).
Waiting for the Barbarians was produced by Iervolino Entertainment (by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi), Michael Fitzgerald and Olga Segura.
Andrea Iervolino, president and founder of Iervolino Entertainment, noted: ”Waiting for the Barbarians continues to climb the charts of the most watched films in the world and we are very proud that a publication of the calibre of Variety has cited our film and its success. After doing so well in the US, where it topped the list of the most-watched movies on Apple TV, it’s satisfying to see its success being replicated in Britain”.
